About
The Street Type Archive is a photographic project founded by Aashim Tyagi in 2009, documenting the interplay between typography and the urban environments it inhabits. Through the lens of photography, the project captures how street type reflects the cultural, social, and historical fabric of cities, becoming an essential part of their identity.
What began as a design research project in Bombay has grown into an ongoing exploration of typographic landscapes across India and beyond. Today, the Street Type Archive is expanding through zines, a Substack publication, and plans for a digital archive.
The project’s ambition is to create a dynamic, accessible resource that preserves the visual beauty and cultural significance of urban type. Future goals include publishing a comprehensive book and establishing a physical archive to ensure these stories are shared and preserved for future generations.
