Street Type Archive is a photographic project documenting the relationship between typography and the environments it inhabits.

Founded in 2009 by Aashim Tyagi, Street Type Archive is a visual record of our evolving typographic landscape— showing how type, design, and culture intersect to shape the identity of places.

Postcards from Bombay, India!

November 5, 2024

Hello everyone! I’ve been visiting my parents in Bombay for the past few months, so this has been my home.

As part of my work for Street Type Archive, I travel to different places, and this section is where I share the latest photos from wherever I am.

For now, here are some postcards from my current visit to Bombay. Enjoy!

Street Type Archive - Zines

In June 2024, the Street Type Archive launched the first issue of its zine series. These poster zines offer a fun and accessible way to dive into the archive’s photography, now in its 15th year.

The first issue, Bombay Eats, featured type signage from the city’s eateries and it was well received, boosting my confidence to continue self-publishing. In November 2024, at the Bombay Zine Fest, I released the next two issues.

Issue 2, Balasinorosaurus Deco, explores the beautiful Indo-Deco homes and nearly century-old typography in Balasinor, Gujarat, India.

Issue 3, Madurai Meander, takes readers to the lively markets of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, where the vibrant type culture of this temple town comes alive.
